What is change management consulting?

Change management consulting means professionally guiding companies through change processes. Our experienced consultants analyze the starting position, develop a strategy and implement it together with your company. People are at the center: employees, leaders and teams who are meant to carry the change.

Change management is not a one-off measure but a structured process. Our consultants bring three things to the table: a proven method, a neutral outside perspective and the time capacity that internal teams often lack. That is why transformation succeeds significantly more often with our support than without it.

The change research institute Prosci proves it: professional support from the very beginning makes your project up to six times more successful. This figure makes one thing clear: change management is not an optional add-on but a decisive success factor.

Change management and transformation –
what is the difference?

Change management and transformation sound similar but mean different things. Both require change management consulting, yet the scope and duration differ significantly. That is exactly why at CPC we deliberately distinguish between classic consulting and our Transformation Consulting approach.

Change management

Change management

Change management describes the support of specific individual initiatives, such as the introduction of a new IT system or a restructuring. A single project can be supported within 3–24 months.

Transformation

Transformation

Transformation encompasses a deeper, often cultural change that affects the entire company: organization, processes, culture, leaders, change capability, procurement, marketing and the targeted use of AI. It requires more stamina and a field-proven approach.

What makes CPC special as a change management consultancy

While many consultancies offer the same standard models or freelancers use long-outdated methods, CPC has developed its own path. This path emerged from day-to-day project work with companies from different industries and in a wide range of change situations.

Recognized as a Hidden Champion for change management.

Our own method CPC Change® instead of standard models.

When does your company need change management consulting?

In challenging change situations, companies often reach a point where internal know-how alone is no longer enough. Typical signs: the project is running, but employees are not on board. Leaders communicate too little. Or the project team is simply overloaded. The right time for our change consulting is therefore:

  • when new technologies or new structures are being introduced.
  • when employees are skeptical about change.
  • when a change initiative exceeds day-to-day business.
  • when mergers, acquisitions or restructurings are ahead.
  • when previous change attempts have not had a lasting effect.

By the way, change capability pays off even without acute pressure. Organizations that invest early in their change competence master later transformations much more easily. So together we lay the right foundations before the pressure arises.

Typical occasions for change management consulting

Change management consulting becomes particularly relevant on these occasions:

SAP S/4HANA implementation

New software changes workflows, roles and daily work. Without support, user acceptance drops considerably.

Restructuring

Reorganizations create uncertainty. Clear communication and involving everyone affected make the difference.

Post-merger integration

Two cultures, two systems, two teams – that requires active support. Studies show that more than 50% of all mergers fall short of expectations because cultural integration is underestimated.

New Work and digitalization

New working models and digital processes demand readiness for change at all levels.

AI adoption

Artificial intelligence changes tasks, roles and ways of working and therefore needs professional change management.

Culture development

When your company senses that its lived culture no longer fits its strategy, it takes more than a single workshop. That is why CPC accompanies this profound process.

Internal teams or external consulting from CPC – which is the better choice?

Your teams do valuable work. But large initiatives need reinforcement. Our change management consultants work for your company for a limited time. From day one we hand over knowledge and skills to your internal team.

We see ourselves not only as change experts who lead your organization through the change. We are also change coaches for your teams. Our shared goal is to make your company strong and self-sufficient for future changes. Our consulting is therefore an investment in your organizational development.

Our approach: How change management consulting works at CPC

Change management consulting at CPC follows a structured change process comprising four phases. Each phase has clear goals and measurable results. This way everyone involved knows at any point where they stand and what comes next.

Change management consulting for your industry

Good change management consulting is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Every industry has its own challenges, its own cultures and its own drivers of change. That is why we bring deep industry knowledge and develop suitable approaches for the specific conditions.

Change management in the automotive industry: transformation under high pressure

The automotive industry is experiencing one of the fastest transformations in its history. E-mobility, new supply chains and changing sales markets confront companies with several major tasks at once. CPC supports manufacturers and suppliers in structuring these change processes, actively addressing resistance and winning the workforce over to the change, step by step.

In concrete terms: in the automotive sector, several thousand employees are often involved, spread across different sites and shifts. We therefore align communication multilingually and precisely with your shift patterns.

Change management in the automotive industry: transformation under high pressure
Change management in the energy, pharma and financial sectors

Change management in the energy, pharma and financial sectors

Energy providers are under pressure from the energy transition and new regulation. Whether new IT systems, the shift to renewable energies or new sales channels: all of this requires clear and structured support.

Pharmaceutical companies introduce complex systems. At the same time they must comply with strict compliance rules. They therefore document, validate and communicate every process change. Change management consulting helps to combine these requirements with the human side of change, without compliance and acceptance coming into conflict.

We see similarly high demands in the financial sector: banks and insurers digitalize legacy structures without endangering operations. The pressure is high, the tolerance for errors low. What all three industries have in common: the human factor decides. CPC brings experience from all three fields and adapts the approach to the specific requirements. The same applies to mechanical engineering, where we combine efficiency thinking with the ability to anchor innovation in everyday work.

We offer change management for these and other industries

Automotive industry

E-mobility, SAP, New Work. Many sites and shifts, high speed.

Energy sector

Energy transition, regulation, system change. Critical infrastructure, operations keep running.

Chemicals & pharma

GxP-compliant systems, restructuring. Compliance and validation obligations.

Banking & insurance

Digitalization, mergers, regulation. Legacy IT landscapes.

Logistics

Supply chain realignment, robotics, real-time tracking, Internet of Things, more customer service.

Public administration

Digitalization of all administrative services, modern organizations, lean processes

Change management and artificial intelligence: transformation in the digital age

Artificial intelligence is the new trigger for change projects. Companies introduce AI systems, change processes and expect employees to follow quickly. But without structured change management, even the best AI technology fails against the reality of everyday work.

That is why CPC is the only consultancy in the market to combine AI consulting with change methodology, offering both from a single source. When you introduce AI, you do not just change processes. You change how people work, what they achieve and which skills they need. That creates uncertainty, and uncertainty creates resistance.

  • AI fundamentally changes tasks, roles and ways of working.
  • Change management makes AI adoption a success.
  • CPC combines AI consulting with change methodology as the only provider in the market.
  • Employees need orientation, qualification and participation.

Employees who experience AI as a threat will reject it. Employees who are involved early develop new skills and actively drive change. This difference is created by professional change management consulting. CPC therefore supports companies not only with the technical introduction of AI systems, but also with the development of an AI culture – a mindset that sees AI as a tool and an opportunity, not a danger.

Frequently asked questions about change management consulting

Your investment depends on several factors. These include project size, duration and the number of sites. The chosen methodology also plays a role. Small change projects with a clear scope can start from a few thousand euros. Large transformations across several sites with a runtime of 12 to 24 months are in a significantly higher range. We are happy to clarify the scope and investment with you in a no-obligation initial consultation.

The duration depends on the scope of the initiative. Smaller change projects, such as supporting a team development or introducing a new process, often take 3 to 6 months. Complex transformations such as SAP S/4HANA rollouts or cultural realignments frequently extend over 12 to 24 months. We plan the runtime realistically and continuously adapt to actual progress.

CPC works with proven models such as Kotter's 8-step model, Lewin's 3-phase model and Prosci's ADKAR model. In addition, we have developed our own method CPC Change®, which takes these foundations further and adapts them to the reality of complex transformations. You can find more on our change management essentials page. We always use the model that fits your company.

Resistance is a natural part of every change process. Those who understand resistance can actively address it. Three levers work particularly well: early involvement of those affected, transparent communication and visible support from leaders. Resistance often arises because people feel uncertain about their role, their job or their skills. CPC supports leaders in fulfilling their role as role models of change and dealing openly with concerns. More on our leadership development page.

Relevant KPIs include the adoption rate of new systems, the employee engagement score, fluctuation in the project team and the degree of goal achievement according to the project plan. Qualitative indicators can also be recorded: How have communication and collaboration changed? How do leaders experience their ability to act during change? CPC defines these key figures together with the company at the start of every project. This keeps results transparent and traceable – for decision-makers and for the whole team.
