Why is the introduction of AI systems both an opportunity and a risk?
The use of artificial intelligence can be compared to the use of fire. Fire is a versatile, powerful tool in every respect that can be used for good or evil: fire can be used to prepare a meal, start a forest fire, or wage war. The decisive factor is the people who use the tool. Compared to artificial intelligence, however, we have been gathering experience with fire for thousands of years. On the one hand, this has resulted in a "feel" for how to use it, which must first be developed with AI. On the other hand, we have developed an entire ecosystem around it: with regulations (fire safety regulations), institutions (fire departments), and safety precautions (smoke detectors and fire extinguishers), right down to children's songs and stories. Everything to take advantage of the opportunities offered by fire and minimize its risks for us. We still have to build such an ecosystem for AI.
